Interdisciplinary Vision + Practice
The Five College Architectural Studies program introduces students to a cross-pollinated approach to thinking and implementing design. At the core of this principle lies a dedication to teaching architecture through the Humanities. As architectures (buildings and urban environments) stand as the resultant of vast series of both simple and complex negotiations, students use the study of buildings and their contexts to inform their design process. With an open minded faculty, rigorous design projects, and an exploratory studio environment, students are constantly engaging in new and fascinating design operations. Each faculty member bridges outward from architecture, in one way or another, to other fields of study and practice and bring this thinking to the classroom. As well, students take creative initiative and make intellectual leaps to discover new ways to connect architecture to other disciplines.
